Bryant Lillywhite recovering from shrapnel injury

100 years ago this month, my Great-Grandfather requested the Medical Board to mark him fit. The papers quoted, "Marked A1 by own request."

Let's just think about that for a second. Here is a man (like hundreds of others no doubt) that was trying to persuade the medical profession to allow him back into a War that was still raging, and that very nearly killed him in the first place. Such was the bravery of the young men of that generation; losing was not an option. If they were vaguely capable of fighting, they wanted to. The war damaged them mentally and physically but they wanted to carry on fighting to help save the lives of their countrymen and women.

Why not buy my Great-Grandfather's Diary to learn more about World War I from a soldier's point of view.
